The picture illustrates the stages in the life cycle of a silkworm, from birth to maturity. Overall, the silkworm goes through a total of four stages, transforming from an egg to a silkworm larva, and ultimately into a moth. This entire process lasts for almost 10 months.
The process begins when a moth lays eggs. After about 10 days, a silkworm larva hatches from these eggs. For a period of four to six weeks, the larva feeds on mulberry leaves. In the subsequent stage, the silkworm generates silk thread that wraps around its body. Within 3 to 8 days, it is completely swathed, and a cocoon is formed.
Finally, over the course of 16 days within the cocoon, the body of the larva develops wings and transforms into a moth. The moth then lays eggs to start the process all over again.
