The first pie chart presents the percentages of energy use in an average Australian Household. The second pie chart illustrates how greenhouse gas is emitted, which is determined from the energy used.
Overall, heating contributed to the highest energy used and water heating was the most significant for greenhouse gas emissions, whereas cooling made up the least part of the energy used and greenhouse gas emissions.
Heating, which was responsible for half of the energy used, comprised 42%. Water heating made up the second highest energy used, which was around one third of the total energy. Refrigeration, other appliances, lighting and cooling used energy of 7%, 15%, 4% and 2% respectively.
Water heating was responsible for the highest greenhouse gas emissions, which was around one third of the total energy. Then, other appliances emitted 28% greenhouse gas, followed by refrigeration, which emitted 14% of the total greenhouse gas. Heating, Lighting and cooling made up 15%, 8% and 3% respectively.
