Overall, the value of clothing exported from Bangladesh saw increases over the period. In addition during 2012, the European Union was the largest importer, while the opposite was the case for Other destinations.
Looking first at the line graph, the export value of clothing from Bangladesh started at around $0.5 billion in 1988. This figure rose gradually over the following decade, reaching about $5 billion by 2000. After 2004, the figures climbed rapidly, peaking at nearly $20 billion in 2012, which marked the most significant point of the entire period.
Moving on to the proportions and revenue of exported clothing in 2012, the European Union was the most profitable market for Bangladesh with 11.38 billion, accounting for 60% of total profit. The USA followed as the second-largest market, contributing $4.53 billion, or 24%. This was followed by Canada providing $0.87 billion ( 5%), while the profit from products exported to unmentioned regions represented 8% of the total (1.55 billion). Finally, Turkey and Japan showed minimal imports of Bangladeshi clothing, with values of $0.36 billion (1%) and $0.4 billion (2%), respectively.
