The line graphs show the number of people travelling by train and the percentage of trains arriving on time in Sydney between 1995 and 2004.
Overall, the number of passengers using trains witnessed a gradual increase and then a gradual decrease over the recorded period. Similarly, the percentage of trains operating on time first fluctuated and then witnessed a substantial decrease from 1995 until 2004. Notably, there is not a direct correlation between the number of train passengers and the percentage of trains that run on time.
As for the number of train passengers in Sydney, 250 million people used trains in 1995, and then the number grew steadily, reaching about 265 million passengers in 1999. In 2000, the number of passengers increased substantially and reached 280 million people, which was followed by by far the highest number of such in 2001, when 300 million people used trains. Later on, the number of passengers dropped to 280 million people in 2002 and remained relatively stable until 2004.

Meanwhile, the percentage of such decreased gradually and stood at just above 85% in 1997 whereas the figures for 1998 and 1999 were around 92% each. The percentage of trains that operate on time decreased to 85% in 2000 and then stood about 92% between 2001 and 2003. The most substantial drop was recorded in 2004 when only 70% of trains in Sydney ran on time.
