The four pie charts demonstrate how frequently men and women population in Australia used social media in two years: 2011 and 2014.
From an overall perspective, both genders became more active on social media in 2014 compared to 2011. Interestingly, women got engaged with platforms more often compared to men in both years. Whereas, the percentage of men who never used platforms fell in 2011, the figures for women grew.
Focusing on 2011, 8% of female and 44% of male population were never active on online platforms. However, this figure dropped to 30% for male users and rose dramatically by 14% for women. The percentage of daily users experienced a significant shift for both genders with shares changing from 30% to 59% for female and 25% to 45% for male groups.
Meanwhile, the proportion of females who got engaged with social media a few times or once week was roughly a third of 2011, demonstrating a significant change in the pattern. On the contrary, the figures for male users in the same categories dropped slightly by 3%.
