The two pie charts illustrate the popularity of various leisure activities amongst European adults in 1985 and 1995.
In 1985, the most popular leisure activity among European adults was watching TV with 32%, and by 1995 it had slightly dropped to 30%, although it still remained the most popular. The most striking change over the period was playing computer games. In 1985, none of the respondents chose this leisure activity, however, after ten years it surged to 27% and became second the most popular activity among European adults. Talking with friends also gained in popularity and increased from 21% in 1985, to 26% in 1995.
In contrast, eating out saw a dramatical decrease. In 1985, this activity was the second most popular and by 1995, it had dropped to 8%. Additionally, other activities also saw a decrease, such as talking with family and other group, however, they were less noticeable.
Overall, watching TV and talking with friends were popular in both years while other activities such as eating out, other and talking with family decreased in popularity. As regards playing computer games, this activity was the one that experienced the highest increase.
