It is evident that 44% of finances was spent on food which was the largest spent commodity in 1966; however, money spent on cars surpassed the expenses on food in 1996. Food, furniture and books are the products which showed a reduction in the next decade. A tenth was spent on furniture in 1966 which was reduced by 2% in the next decade, and less than a tenth was spent on petrol over the given period. The expense spent on books declined to 1% from 6% in a 10-year period. Other categories showed a marked increase in the expenses of an American citizen. Finally, only 1% was spent on computers in 1966 which was increased to one in ten during 1996.
