The line graph and table illustrate global water usage across different sectors from 1900 to 2000 and compare water utilization in Brazil and Congo in the year 2000.
Overall, there was an upward trend in water use in three sectors. Besides, water consumption in Brazil was much higher than that in Congo.
As can be seen from the graph, water use for agriculture rose modestly in the period of 1900 to 1940. However, from 1950 onwards, agricultural usage increased dramatically and occupied the first position. Meanwhile, industrial and domestic witnessed a comparable level in the period of 1900 to 1950. After that, water utilization for industrial activity grew more significantly and peaked at 1100 km3 , surpassing water consumption for domestic purposes.
When it came to water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000, Brazil observed a greater population than Congo, with 176 million and 5.2 million respectively. Additionally, irrigated land in Brazil was 265 times as much as that in Congo, which recorded only 100km2. As a result, water usage per Brazilian people also exceeded water utilization per Congo citizens, with 359m3 and 8m3 correspondingly.
