Overall, throughout the period, all the figures showed upward trends, albeit to varying degrees. Despite starting as a runner-up at the beginning of the period, Mobile phone became the most popular among people in China by the end.
In detail, there was no usage of the mobile phones in China from 1994 to 1995, which was followed by a gradual increase until 2000, where it rose sharply to 250 million of people in 2001, surpassing the fixed telephone lines. After which, there was a consistent increase until end of the period, where it reached an all-time high of 450 million of people.
By contrast, the fixed telephone lines started the period at about 25 millions of people, and went up steadily at the same rate until 2000, reaching 200 million people. A more drastic growth could be observed in 2001, where it rose by 50 million, and increased consistently, reaching 350 million in 2005. Lastly, before expanding to 50 million 1997, the internet was not used in China between 1994 and 1996. Over the ensuing years, it augmented stably, climbing to just below 200 million by the end.
