Overall, data from late 1999 shows a significant increase in the number of internet users in the USA and Canada by 2009. In contrast, while Mexico’s statistics showed steady growth over the same period, the numbers remained much lower than those of the other two countries.
Looking at the USA, the number of internet users stood at approximately 30% at the beginning. This figure significantly increased to just 40% by 2001, and over the next eight years, it saw a slight rise to above 80%. Meanwhile, in Canada, despite starting below 10% in 1999, the number of internet users skyrocketed to approximately 70% by 2003. During the period from 2004 onwards, it displayed slight growth to reach 75%, before peaking at around 100% by the end of the decade.
On the other hand, Mexico began with the lowest percentage of internet users in 1999 and maintained a steady increase, reaching approximately 40% by the end of the period.
