The line graph demonstrates the percentage of people who used mobile telephones and fixed telephones in Africa over nine years.
Overall, this graph shows a smooth growth percentage of fixed phones while the percentage of mobile phones increased sharply. Although, fixed phones were useful in 1994 mobile phones were popular at the end of the period.
To begin, both types of phones grew slowly for four years but the mobile phone line started to increase quickly in 1999. The fixed line increased slightly and grew from 1.7% to 3.1% while the mobile line jumped from 0.06 % to 8.8 %.
In 2001 the two of them had the same percentage of usage by people. After this year, the percentage popularity of mobile subscribers skyrocketed as fixed subscribers continued to grow slowly.
In 2004, African people used mobile phones five times more than fixed phones. From 2001 to 2004 the percentage of fixed phones grew by around 0,2 percent while mobile phones grew by 5,8 percent.
