The bar-chart shows five popular activities in which various ages children in the USA do as part of their bedtime routines. It is clear that reading was the most common activity among children of all age groups, while eating and watching TV was the least popular. In general, young children tent to do bedtime activites more frequently than older ones.
Among the youngest group (1-3 years), reading is the most common activity, done by around 65% of children. A similar proportion of 4-5-year-olds (about 70%) also read before bed, making it the most popular activity in both groups. About 40% of 1-3-year-olds take a bath as part of their bedtime routine, while the figure for 4-5-year-olds is slightly lower. Brushing teeth becomes more common with age, increasing from around 30% among the youngest to roughly 50% among 4-5-year-olds.
For the oldest group (6-8 years), the proportion of children who read decreases slightly but still remains the highest at about 60%. In contrast, watching TV and eating are the least common bedtime routines across all age groups, with fewer than 20% of children doing these activities. Overall, as children get older, relaxing and educational activities such as reading remain popular, while simpler routines like having a bath or eating become less frequent.
