The line graph shows job numbers in four sectors, including manufacturing, agriculture, retail, and healthcare, in the economy of the USA from 1960 to 2020.
Overall, all the sectors witnessed a noticeable change throughout the period, whilst manufacturing and agriculture exhibited a downward trajectory in terms of the number of jobs.Retail and healthcare saw the opposite. Notably, agriculture stands out in the graph due to only decline over the whole period.
In the first two decades, the number of professions in manufacturing increased, albeit at a gradual rate, reaching a peak of 5 billion. However, the figure went down, making up about 14 million in the last year. Similarly, jobs in the sphere of agriculture underwent a moderate descent from 6 million to 3 million over the years, remaining the only sector without any growth.
Conversely, the number of jobs in retail stood at 6 million in the first year, which rose sharply to 15 million in 2000. The figure then showed a small increase of 1 million until the end of the period. The figure of jobs in healthcare also experienced a significant ascent from 2 million in 1960 to over 15 million in 2020.
