The bar graph compares four countries in terms of the percentage of the population living in cities from 1970 to 2020 with predictions for 2030 and 2040. In general, all the four countries saw a increase in the percentage from 1970 to 2020, and it is expected that the percentage of all the four countries increase.
Though Philippines experienced the highest percentage of all the four countires at just over 30% in 1970, the percentage fluctuated from 1970 to 2010, and from that point on it is predected to see a small but a steady increase at approximately 40% in 2020 to a highest percentage of 53%. In contrast, Malaysia experienced a dramatic increase and the percentage was the highest at about 73% in 2020. Additionally, it is also predicted to see a steady increase to at just over 80% in 2040.
The percentage of both Thailand and Indonesia were under 20% in 1970. That of both of these two countries increased slightly to approximately 28% in 2000. From 2000 onwards, Indonesia experienced a dramatic increase to at just over 40% in 2010 and it is expected that the percentage reaches 60% in 2040. Even though the percentage of Thailand was stable from 1990 to 2020 at just under 30%, that is expected to increase from 2020, reaching about 47%.
