The line chart demonstrates the proportion of people who reside in urban in four Asian countries—Philippines, Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia—over the period of 50 years, from 1970 to 2020. In the same chart, predictions are shown for 2030 and 2040, as well.
Overall, in the end of the measured period, the percentage of total population living in cities experienced a substantial rise for all four countries, and for predictions period, it is expected that increase will continue, yet ranking will remain unchanged.
Firstly, in 1970, around 30% of Malaysia’s and Philippines’s populations dwelled in urban. By 2020, Malaysia made dramatically growh, reaching almost at 80%, while Philippines showed fluctuate dynamic between 30% and 50%.
Secondly, Thailand had under 20% percentage of population dwelling in cities in 1970, while Indonesia had around 10%. However, by 2020, these both countries increased considerablely, and Indonesias’ proportion surppased 50%, whereas Thailand reached around 40%. İn addition, there will be significant increase for all four countires. By 2040, Malaysia will have the highest percentage of city dwellers, over 80%. Following that, Indonesia will make the second, with nearly 65%, moreover, the figure for Philippines and Thailand will reach around 55% and 50%, respectively.
