Overall, the cost of bananas in almost all countries has increased slightly, except France. Furthermore, Japan has the most expensive bananas among the four countries.
In 1996, the price of bananas in Japan started at $2 per kilogram and peaked at $3 after 2 years, followed by a steep drop to the original price in the following year. After some major fluctuations, the price stood at 2.5 by the year 2004. With the same starting point as Japan at $2, France witnessed stability in banana prices from 1996 to 1998 before the country’s banana price decreased to a low of $1.5 per kilogram in 1999. Despite some fluctuation between 1999 and 2003, the price recovered to approximately $2 at the end of 2004.
Starting at $1.5 and $1 for Germany and the USA in 1996, respectively, Germany’s price fluctuated significantly, the USA’s price increased, and both countries met the same price of about $1.2 in 1999. From this point on, while America’s price remained stable until 2004, the price of bananas in Germany reached its highest point of about $2 per kilogram in 2002 before gradually dropping to around $1.8 after 2 years,
