The line graph given shows how many jobs were there in different four sectors (manufacturing, agriculture, retail, and healthcare) of the economy in the United States from 1960 to 2020. In general, while the figure for manufacturing and healthcare declined over the period given, the number of jobs in agriculture and retail sectors witnessed a rise.
According to the data collected, there was a dramatic fall in the number of manufacturing jobs from 1980 to 2020, reaching about 13 million, despite the fact that the figure peaked at 20 in the year 1980, which showed the highest proportion in the given span. Another remarkable decrease was experienced by agriculture sector, to be on a continuous fall over 60 years, with approximately 2 million jobs in 2020.
By contrast the number of jobs in the other two sectors increased dramatically. The figure for retail grew tremendously in the first 40 years, from around 7 million to 15 million, following a small rise in 2020 (just over 15 million). In addition, the number of jobs in healthcare sector witnessed a sharp increase over the years given, reaching about 16 million as the figure of retail sector.
