The graphs compare four different fruits – oranges, lemons, grapefruits, and other types of citrus exported by top countries in 2012.
Overall, South Africa led in exporting oranges and lemons, while Turkey and Japan were the biggest exporters of grapefruits and other citrus fruits, respectively.
Looking first at South Africa, it topped the list by exporting 1,051,000 metric tons of oranges and approximately half that amount of lemons. Mexico ranked second, exporting 900,000 metric tons of oranges and 150,000 metric tons of lemons, placing it third in lemons. A similar pattern is seen in the United States, which exported 700,000 metric tons of oranges and exactly half that amount in lemons.
As for the remaining categories, Turkey and the United States both exported 350,000 metric tons of grapefruits. Argentina was the least popular, with 70,000 metric tons lower than that of the others. The situation differed in the category of other citrus fruits: Japan led with 450,000 metric tons of fruits, whereas Israel and Mexico exported a minor 6,000 and 4,000 metric tons, respectively.
