The bar charts give information about four different types of citrus fruits – in thousand tons – and three countries which imported them most in 2012. Overall, by far the most popular product was oranges, with South Africa importing them most. Notably, although Mexico led in terms of lemon and other fruit imports and Turkey dominated grapefruits, it was the US that consistently ranked in the top three importers across all four products.
Oranges were imported in large quantities, with South Africa leading the graph at 10,000 tons, which was double the figure for Egypt (5,000). The US, on the other hand, lagged slightly behind, importing about 4,500 tons of oranges. Grapefruit imports, by comparison, were dominated by Turkey, a country which imported 4,000 tons. Next came Mexico at 3,000, whereas the US, again, ranked third with 2,000 tons – half the figure for Turkey.
In contrast, Mexico was the major importer of lemons and other fruits, standing at approximately 5,000 tons each. Although the US imported about 500 tons of unspecified fruits, which placed it, once more, in the third place, this country ranked second after Mexico in terms of lemon imports. While Egypt was in the second place with slightly higher figures of other fruits than the US, Argentina joined the top positions with 1,000 tons of imported lemons.
