The two pie charts outline the residental water use for different reasons -garden, bathroom, toilet, washing clothes, kitchen- between 1988 and 2008.
Overall, there was a downward trend, albeit to varying degrees and different patterns, in the proportion of water usage for garden, washing clothes, toilet whereas the opposite was true for garden and kitchen categories. Although bathroom sector led the list in the initial years, kitchen category overtook it, becoming the dominant figure in the end.
Focusing on the upward trends first, the figure for bathroom water usage stood at 25% in 1988, being the first largest category in the list. During the next years this figure witnessed an increase, reaching 29%. As for kitchen water utilities, the sector required only 15% in 1988 after climbing to 30% and surpassing the bathroom cateory’s dominance.
In stark contrast, garden required 20% in the beginning and witnessed a significant decrease to just 8% by 2008. Washing clothes and toilet categories accounted for 22% and 18%, respectfully, in the beginning of the period. After two decades, however, experienced minor drops, representing 19% of water use for washing clothes and 14% for toilet.
