Overall, while there was a decrease in the water usage for gardening, washing and toilets, the opposite was true for kitchen and bathroom purposes. In addition, it was also notable the resident spent the least amount of water for kitchen purpose in 1988, but this figure became the highest among five purposes in 2008.
As can be seen in the chart, the amount of water consumed for gardening was at 20% in 1988, after which it experienced a sharp decline to 7% in 2008. By contrast, the figure for kitchen purpose saw a different change, rising significantly from 15% in 1988 to 29% for the following twenty years.
Regarding the remaining purposes, about 25% of water was used for washing in 1988, with a slight drop to 22% in the next twenty years. A similar change can be seen in the figure for toilets, which fell marginally by 4% during the twenty years. Meanwhile, the proportion of water consumed for bathroom activities, accounting for 22% in 1988, followed by a slow rise to 28% twenty years later.
