The graph below shows annual water usage (in millions of cubic meters) by industries in some countries. Overall, for most of the time, ground water were more used than public supply of water except industries of foods and drinks and industry of machinery.
When it comes to using public supply water, chemicals industry leads with 240 millions cubic meters of water per year and it’s followed by food and drinks industry with 190 million, machinery industry with 100 million, metal industry with 90 million, paper industry by 20 million and textiles and fuel industries close the list with either of them using 10 million cubic meters of public supply water.
On the other hand, there’s a ground water. Chemical industry leads this one as well with 430 million cubic meters of ground water usage annually, and it’s followed by metal industry with 240 million, paper industry with 190 million, food and drinks industry with 110 million, textiles industry with 80 million, fuel industry with 70 million and machinery industry uses the least amount of ground water with only 10 million cubic meters of ground water a year.
