The line graph illustrates the level of unemployment rates among young people aged 16-24 in England from 1993 to 2012.
Overall, the proportion of unemployment were consistently higher than the overall figures in both regions, while London generally experienced worse unemployment situations than the rest of England
In 1993, the unemployment rate for young people in London was around 22%, compared to 18% in the rest of England. Both these figures declined steadily to approximately 17% and 13% by 1998, before fluctuating slightly. From 2003 onwards, the unemployment rate rose noticeably, peaking at about 26% in London, and accounted for 225 outside London in 2010
By contrast, the percentage of overall unemployment rates was much lower than throughout the period. In 1993, London started at 13%, while the rest of England recorded 10%. Both areas experienced substantial decreases until the end of the 2000s, reaching about 8% and 4%, respectively. After 2003, unemployment rates climbed again, with London reaching nearly 10% and the rest of England stabilising at around 8% in 2010.
