The chart compares the changes in three primary sources of air pollutants in Portugal during 2005 to 2020.
Overall, only emmissions from transportations saw an increase over the surveyed period, whereas household and industry became less significant. Additionally, industry remained the biggest factor to air pollution in Portugal throughout.
Regarding transport, approximately 1 million tonnes of air pollutants were recorded at the start, after which it documented a small lift to about 1.2 million tonnes in 2011, before finishing around 2 millions tonnes, being the second most contributor throughout the period.
Household and industry, on the other hand, both witnessed a decrese in the amount of air pollutants. In 2005, exactly 1 million tonnes of air pollutants came from household, prior to a minimal decrease of about 0.1 million in 2011, then continued to fall to around 0.6 million tonnes in 2020. Industry recored a strikingly 5 millions tonnes at the start, before fall drastically to about half of its initial number in 2020 but still stood as the most common factor.
