This graph illustrates the total air pollution generated by several sources, including transportations, industry and households, in the United Kingdom spanning from 1990 to 2005.
According to the graph, industry accounted for the majority of the production of air contaminants, followed by transport and households. Noticeably, the total number of pollutants presented a downward trend throughout the period. In specific, 7 million tonnes of air contaminants were produced in 1990 and this dropped to 3 million tonnes in 2005. The significant decrease was mainly contributed by the reduction in industrial and household pollution.
To mention, industry and households exhibited 5.5 and 1 million tonnes of contaminants in 1990 and dropped to 2 and less than 0.5 million tonnes in 2005, respectively. Nonetheless, transportation displayed a different pattern in the number of pollutants, with a stable trend at 1 million tonnes over the 15-year period.
All in all, a greener trend with less air pollution was observed due to the reduced pollutant exhibition by factories in industry and households.
