The chart illustrates the different financial sources used by IT firms in South America over the period from 2012 to 2022. Overall, it can be seen that some funding types increased significantly, while others became less common throughout the decade.
The most striking trend is that there is a dramatic increase in the rates revenue throughout the period, especially between the year 2013 and 2022, with millions increasing from about 1450$ at the beginning of the year to over 2450$ by the end.
In terms of sources that experienced growth, both rates revenue and user charges showed steady upward trends throughout the period. Rates revenue rose consistently from around $1,300 million in 2012 to approximately $2,300 million by 2022, making it the largest source of funding overall. User charges followed a similar pattern, increasing from roughly $900 million to about $1,800 million over the same timeframe.
By contrast, the other two funding sources showed much more volatility. Borrowings fluctuated significantly, climbing from around $1,000 million in 2012 to a peak of about $1,500 million in 2017 before falling back to roughly $1,100 million by 2022. Meanwhile, grants and subsidies remained the least substantial source of income, starting at around $600 million and generally declining slightly towards just above $500 million in the final year.
