The given line graph illustrates the information about the amount of oil which was consumed in 4 countries per day: US, China, Middle East, Western Europe and Japan in a period of 21 years. The figures are given in millions.
Overall, it can be observed that the indicators in Western Europe and Japan steadily decreased throughout the period, while the opposite was true about the Middle East. At the same time, the US showed a mainly downward trend, whereas China represented an upward trend for a majority of the given period.
Initially, the US had the highest consumption of oil, showing roughly 10 millions barrels per day, while China’s figure was almost 5 times lower than the US. In the next 6 years, the consumption of oil in the US remained the same, meanwhile, China’s numbers significantly grew, reaching nearly 3 million barrels per day. Subsequently, the US figures dramatically decreased, showing approximately 4 million barrels per day. In contrast, the consumption rate in China slightly increased between 2015 and 2025, however, it then insignificantly decreased until the end of the given period, representing 3.8 million barrels per day.
Conversely, the number of oil consumption in the Middle East slightly increased between 2009 and 2030, reaching from nearly 2 million barrels per day to 3.5 million barrels per day. By contrast, the opposite was true about Western Europe’s and Japan’s intakes, starting from 4 million barrels per day and ending at 2.1 million barrels per day.
