The graph depicts the difference in costs of vegetables and fruits, sugar and sweets, and carbonated drinks every 2 years starting from 1978 to 2009.
Overall, we can see that at the beginning, the prices of all items were relatively similar, but in the following years, changes began to occur leading to an increase in prices for everything. Towards the end of the chart, fresh fruits and vegetables appear to be the most expensive groceries among those listed.
Between 1979 and 1980, the prices for each type of grocery were almost identical, at around 60. The estimated values for all items began to show a slow increasing trend.
Additionally, sugar and sweets saw a notable price increase, exceeding 100 in 1982. Similarly, fruits and vegetables also experienced price fluctuations, dropping to nearly 80 after 2 years. There were 2 years of stability, and by 1987, it was evident that the prices of all 3 types of groceries started to vary. Fresh fruits and vegetables were the most expensive at 325, followed by sugar and sweets at 200, and carbonated drinks being the cheapest at 155.
The significant gap between prices is notable, with the consumer price index reaching approximately 210 by the end of the period.
