The given line graph demonstrates the figure of goods transported in the United Kingdom by four different categories of transfer: road, water, pipeline and rail from 1980 to 2008.
Overall, most transport experienced upward trends, namely road, water, and pipeline, while rail remained unchanged throughout the given period. Additionally, this graph is led by road, when the pipeline recorded the lowest figure.
Road vehicles began at around 70 million in 1980; however, this figure sharply rose to reach approximately 90 million until 2008. Moving to water transport, even though it was 39 million in the beginning of the period, it stood at 60 million in 2008. In addition, it illustrated the largest change between 1980 and 2008.
Furthermore, the total number of pipelines recorded the lowest, at about 4 million; however, until 2008, its figure increased by at least 20 million. Meanwhile, railway via remained stable, at 40 million tonnes, although it showed some slightly falling. For instance, this figure fell to 30 million between 1984 and 1992.
