This bar chart provides information about estimated count of elephants in Asia in the years 1997 and 2004.
From an overall perspective, it is apparent that the population of elephants in India was always significantly more than other Asian areas. Furthermore, the figure decreased in various amounts in all countries except in Cambodia.
In 1997, India as the most elephant populated country had almost 10,000 elephants, but by 2004 while maintaining its position in the ranking, it had fallen to fewer than 80,000. Myanmar was the second country with the highest number of elephants in both years with the elephant population of approximately 5500 in 1997, falling slightly in 2004.
On the other hand, the number of elephants in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, and China was consistently below 2000. the figure for Malaysia and Thailan declined drastically to fewer than the half of their number in 1997, reaching approximately 1000 and 1500, respectively.
