The line graph illustrates the shifts of four types of means to communicate according to different generations in the UK in 2011. Overall, the diagram highlights that almost young people prefer to use the internet and smartphones to communicate, while it is the opposite in elders.
The internet is the most popular way to keep in touch for teenagers, which was used by 50% of teenagers under 18. Although that, through the ages, the proportion of internet usage declines rapidly, it decreases to 40% in the 18-35 age group, falling to 13% in the 36-60 age group, and lower than 10% in the over 60 years old group. Meanwhile, communication by mobile phone seems to be more stable than the internet, with its maintenance at 30% in all groups except those over 60 years old.
The elderly group seems to prefer to use traditional communication methods than the modern communication methods. Post and telephone started at approximately 5% and 15% of people use, but the races were more than three times when compare in the oldest group, 35% and 45%, respectively.
