In 1979, beef was the most popular meat, with around 220 to 230 grams consumed per week, followed by lamb at about 150 grams, and chicken at 140 grams. Fish consumption was the lowest, at around 60 grams. Over the next 25 years, chicken consumption increased steadily, overtaking beef in the 1980s and reaching about 250 grams by 2004.
Conversely, beef consumption dropped significantly to about 100grams. Fish consumption showed only a slight decline, remaining below 50 grams throughout the period.
Overall, eating habits shifted from red meat toward white meat, with chicken becoming the dominant choice by 2004.
