The line graph illustrates the monthly ridership of four different types of transportation (subway, tram, bus, and bike share) in a European metropolitan area, measured in millions, from 1980 to 2030. Overall, the number of commuters using the subway and tram experienced an upward trend, while bus showed a decline throughout the period. However, bike share started to be used by 2000, and had the lowest number of commuters compared to the subway which had the most at the end of the period.
At the outset, the number of subway commuters accounted for 2.5 million in 1980, remained unchanged over the first decade, and then increased moderately over the period, reaching 4.5 million by 2030. Likewise, the general trend for tram also rose, began the period at just under 0.5 million, tripled and peaked at 1.5 million at the end of the period. In comparison, Bike sharing was introduced around 2000 with approximately 0.25 million users, and after it increased slightly, hitting its highest in 2030.
Notably, the number of passengers for bus decreased over the period, accounted for just over 1,5 million in 1980, and dropped slightly, reaching its lowest of approximately 1 million in 2030.
