The given graph illustrates how many complaints about noise pollution to Newtown’s Environmental Health authorities from 1980 to 1996.
Looking from an overall perspective, while the number of complaints in three factors which made noise in the city had an upward trend, the opposite was true for noise from households and domestics over the 16- years period.
In the beginning, the number of complaints about domestic noise took at over 600 before dropping remarkably and becoming the type of noise with the lowest complaints at 100 in 1996. In contrast, factories only had 400 complaints at the first but then surpassed domestic and gradually increased to 700 complaints in the last period.
A similar trend was witnessed in traffic and road work noise. Both types of noise were in 300 and 500 complaints respectively before remaining unchanged in 1984. They both decreased by 100 complaints in 1988. Road work’s complaints reached a peak at over 1200, while the figure for traffic noise rose sharply to 600 in the last period.
