Overall, Children’s television viewing rose dramatically over the period, reaching a peak between the early 1990s and 2000. Despite some fluctuations after this point, the general trend was a significant increase compared with the starting year.
In 1950 children spent less than one hour per day watching television. This figure rose steadily throughout the following decades, reaching around 2 hours by 1965 and approximetaly 4 hours by 1980. The upward trend continued, and children’s avarage daily viewing peaked at nearly 4.5 hours during the 1990s.
From around 2000 onwards, the amount of time children spent in front of the television declined slightly but remained high, fluctuating between 4 and 4,2 hours per day by 2010.
