The line graph illustrates how many people visited the UK for work, for a holiday and in order to see froends and family over a 20-year period, from 1989 to 2009.
Overall, it is clear that the number of visits to the UK for all three purposes increased, with holidays being the most common reason and meeting friends and relatives the least one throughout almost the whole period in question.
Holiday visits stood at 6.5 million in 1989; however, the figure saw significant increases to 9 million over the first and the last five years of the perid given with a significant dip to it innitial figure in 2004. The figure for business visits was a little bit lower, at 5 million but experienced a more dramatic rise to 8 million in the final year, overtaking that of holiday visits between 1999 and 2004 at just under 7 million. Despite the steady upward, the figure then declined to 7 million
Likewise, visits to see friends and family saw a substential rise from 3.5 milliom at the beginning of the period to 6 million in 2009 with a slight decline by 1 million in the final yerar. It is notable that between 1989 and 1994 the figures for bisiness and meeeting friends and family converged at 4 million.
