The line graph illustrates the participation figures in Olympics since its beginning in 1924 till 2004, distinguished by male, female and total counts.
Overall, the participation numbers were generally dominated by the males in the first couple of decades, while females shown significant growth in the last two decades of the mentioned timeframe.
Male participation started with 3000 in 1924, contributing substantially to the total participation due to minimal involvement from females, and rose moderately to 5000 in 1944. However, post that, male numbers increased slightly over the years, before finally reaching close to 6500 in 2004.
Even though interest in females for olympic sports was marginal (500) in the beginning, the figures continued to grow moderately in the next six decades consistently, and reached to 2000 in 1984. Furthermore, a sharp surge was observed between 1984 and 2004, when number of female participants reached its peak at 5800 approximately.
Female numbers contributed largely in the last two decades of the mentioned timeframe towards the overall count in participation, which rose from 8000 in 1924 to 12000 in 2004.
