The line graph provides a comparison of the consumption of butter and margarine in the United States over a period of 40 years, from 1980 to 2020.
As can be seen, margarine had much higher consumption than butter at the beginning of the period; however, the trend changed over the years. It is clear that the trends of margarine and butter were absolutely different. Margarine has a simple trend, and its line has only fallen through the years, but butter’s trend was quite interesting.
It is noticeable that margarine was popular among the people at the end of the 20th century in the United States, but it plunged through the years and bottomed out at 2 lbs per person consumption in 2020.
The pattern of butter plateaued between 1980 and 2000, before reaching a peak of approximately 6 lbs per person consumption in 2020. The butter line surpassed the other roughly in 2005.
