The table illustrates how the engagement rates of adults in four distinct activities in urban and rural areas varied over two decades, spanning from 1990 to 2010.
Overall, a discernible upward trend was observed in the figures for reading and photography, while that for animated play and playing underwent an opposite trajectory. It is also noteworthy that reading remained the most popular means of entertainment in both surveyed areas over the timeframe.
Regarding activities that saw an increase, reading initially attracted the largest proportion of aldults engaging in, with 61% in urban area and 71% in rural area. After a decade, its percentage in urban area significantly escalated to 78%, while that in rural area slightly rose to the same point. In stark contrast, the data on photography reached the bottom of the table at a mere 7% and 10% in 1990, then dramatically surged to 17% and 24% in 2000.
Focusing on other sectors, the participation rates of animated play remained stable in urban area over the timeframe. However, its percentage in rural area slightly surged from 18% (1990) to 14% (2010). Similarly, but to a lesser extent, a decline also occurred in the figures for playing in urban area, with the rates plunging from 21% to 14%, while those in other region remained unchanged over the surveyed period.
