Overall, it is clear that reading was the priority of adults while photography was the least common choice for them. Besides, the proportion of adults opting for playing barely varied during the period.
It was reading that stood out at 61% in genres of leisure activities for urban adults in the initial year, followed by playing at 10%. Next, the two categories experienced opposite trends. To specify, the figure for reading hobby rose steeply to nearly 80% while the percentage of playing participants declined moderately to approximately 15% in 2000. In rural areas, the attraction of reading thrived from 71% to 78%, maintaining at the top. Meanwhile, the proportion of rural adults taking part in playing stabilized at roughly a quarter for the whole period.
People in the cities hardly had interests in animated play and photography in the year 1990, constituting 10% and 7% respectively. By 2000, photography became more common, increasing 7% participants and overtaking that of animated play. By contrast, the inclination of rural adults toward animated play fell marginally to 14%, compared to the strong growth of around 10% in photography preference there.
