The given table provides information about the proportion of adults living in the city and the countryside who participated in four different spare time activities over a 20-year period, from 1990 to 2010.
Overall, reading had the largest proportion of mature-aged individuals taking part in between 1990 and 2010. Meanwhile, photography was the sector that saw the most notable growth in both areas over the given years.
To begin with, reading activity made up the largest share of mature people in both areas, with 61% people in the urban area and 71% people in the rural area in 1990. By 2010, these figures increased remarkably to 78% in both places. In the photography activity, there was an upward trend in the percentage of adult participants in both the city and the countryside. It is observed that the proportion of individuals in the residential area joining in photography grew sharply from 7% to 17% and that of people in nonrural area increased rapidly from 14% to 24%.
In 1990, 10% of people living in the city joining in animated-play activity, remaining steady at this point by 2010. In contrast to people in the urban place, which did not change, the percentage of people living in the countryside participating in this part decreased gradually from 18% to 14%. Moving to the playing activity, the proportion of persons in rural area spending their spare time in this part accounted for 26% in both periods; whereas, the figures for urban adults taking part in playing experienced a notable decrease, dropping from 21% to 14%.
