The bar chart illustrates the proportion of people working part-time in four countries of the United Kingdom between 1980 and 2010.
Overall, except for Northern Ireland, all of the other countries witnessed an increase in this figure throughout the period. In addition, part-time workers in Wales were the highest in both 1980 and 2010.
Regarding England, approximately 25% was the percentage of part-time workers, which was nearly half that of Scotland (the lowest proportion) in 1980. After 30 years, a moderate rise was seen in the figure for England, increasing to around 30%. The same trend was recorded in Scotland; the proportion of part-time workers climbed significantly to 20% from 1980 to 2010.
In 1980, Wales experienced the highest percentage of people working part-time among the four categories, at around 32%. Thirty years later, the figure for Wales was still the biggest, standing at nearly 34%. The opposite was true for Northern Ireland; in 1980, 15% was the proportion for this country. Throughout the period, despite a slight drop, the figure for Northern Ireland was the lowest, at 13%.
