The chart illustrates the proportion of individuals in four age groups who frequented the cinema at least once a month in a specific nation from 1978 to 2008.
Overall, there was an increase among individuals aged 35+, while a decline was seen in the young people aged 14-35. In addition, despite some fluctuations in all four age categories examined, the figures’ order remains unchanged.
The figure for individuals aged 14-24 started at just over 90%, after which it saw a slight fluctuation until 1998, followed by a final decline in 2008. Meanwhile, the percentage of people going to the cinema aged 25 to 34 experienced a significant drop from 80% in 1978 to 60% after 20 years, but it later rebounded at 80% in 1998, before decreasing to ending the period at approximately 85%.
60% of people aged 35 to 49 went to the movie theater frequently in 1978, with subsequent fluctuating upward trends to 70% in 1998, but later dropped to around 67% in the last year of the period examined. Similar changes can be seen in the figure for age 50+, which grew from just above 40% in 1978 to about 50% in 1998 in spite of a drop to 30% in 1988 and stabilizing at this level towards the end of the period.
