The bar chart illustrates the percentages of urban/suburban and rural households in a particular country that had access to the Internet between 2011 and 2016.
Overall, internet access increased steadily in both areas over the period. Urban and suburban households consistently had a higher proportion of Internet access than rural households, while rural areas remained the least connected throughout.
In 2011, around 20% of urban and suburban households had Internet access, compared with only about 10% in rural areas. Over the next few years, access in urban and suburban regions rose gradually, reaching approximately 45% by 2014. During the same period, rural household access also increased, although at a much slower rate, remaining below 20%.
By 2016, Internet access among urban and suburban households peaked at roughly 55%, whereas rural areas experienced a notable rise to around 35%. Despite this improvement, a significant gap between the two groups was still evident at the end of the period.
