The graph provides information about the percentage of urban/suburban and rural homes in Europe that had Internet connection between 1999 and 2004.
Overall, there was a huge gap percentage in Internet access between cities and villages throughout the period. The prospect for both areas was increasing steadily over the years.The highest percentage was achieved in 2004 for both categories.
The smallest amount of people who had access to the Internet was in 1999 for both urban/suburban and rural areas, with approximately 15% and 2% respectively. In 2000, there was a significant rise in cities with 30%, however villages didn’t. The 2001 period saw a gradual growth at 40% for urban areas, while rural areas increased to 10%.
Half of cities’ population had an access to the Internet in 2002, whilst villagers were about 15%. There was no sharp increases for cities in 2003, with only 52%, however the percentage of rural household Internet access reached 25%. In 2004, almost 55% of urban/suburban population were able to use the Internet, while in rural areas only 35%.
