The infographic depicts the percentage of revenue received from three different film genres, which were categorised into romance, comedies and action or horror for a Hollywood film studio between 1970 and 2000. Over the period of three decades, romance witnessed a considerable decrease, whereas there was a steady increase in revenue percentages from action or horror. Meanwhile, the amount of income earned from comedies had been relatively stable during this period.
In 1970, the figures for romance and action or horror stood at 50% and less than 10% respectively, accounting for the highest and lowest proportion. In the next 10 years, the revenue stemming from action or horror grew marginally to around 12% before reaching its peak of approximately 35% in 2000. In contrast, romance overtook action or horror, rising gradually from roughly 13% in 1980 to 35% in 2000, which became the film type making the highest revenue at the end of the period.
Comedy revenues, on the other hand, commenced this period at above 30%, nearly stabilized in 2000 although undergoing an insignificant fluctuation in the middle 20 years.
