The line graph illustrates how the percentages of the population aged 60 and over in Korea, Spain and the USA changed and are expected to change between 1950 and 2050. Figures are given in percentages.
Overall, all three countries show a similar trend: the proportion of elderly people increases over the period and reaches around 20% by 2050. In addition, Korea is expected to experience the most dramatic growth and become the country with the highest proportion of people aged 60 and over.
First of all, the percentage of the population aged 60 and over in Korea is expected to rise sharply from about 8% in 2030 to approximately 22% in 2050, which is the most significant change among the three countries. Meanwhile, Spain and the USA are projected to reach around 20% and 18% respectively by 2050.
Second, looking at 1970 and 1990, Spain and the USA show dramatic increases in their proportions of people aged 60 and over. In 1970, the figures were around 9% and 10% respectively, but by 1990 they had risen to approximately 14% and 15%. In contrast, Korea displayed a different trend, as the proportion remained stable at around 3% during the same period.
