The line graph shows the percentages of households in the UK that had access to four types of modern technology, namely CD players, mobile phones, DVD players and Internet connections, from 1994/95 to 2008.
Overall, the percentages for all technologies increased during the period. CD players were the most popular technology for most of the years shown, while DVD players experienced the fastest growth. However, the figure for CD players fell slightly at the end of the period.
Looking at the graph in more detail, the percentage of households with CD players started at about 45% in 1994/95. It then increased steadily and reached a peak of nearly 90% in 2006/07 before dropping slightly to around 85% in 2008. Similarly, mobile phone ownership rose considerably from about 15% in 1996/97 to approximately 80% by the end of the period.
Internet connection had the lowest percentage at the beginning, at only around 10% in 1998/99. However, it increased gradually throughout the period and reached about 65% in 2008. DVD players showed the most significant growth. Starting at roughly 30% in 2002/03, the figure climbed sharply and reached around 85% in 2008, becoming one of the most widely used technologies in UK households.
