Overall, men work longer hours in both sectors while women tend to have shorter working weeks. Notably, males and females have similar distribution of working hours in both sectors.
As regards the government sector, 30% men and a mere 4% women work over 46 hours a week, meanwhile 15% of males and 20% of females work 31-45 weekly hours. Females’ share of those who work 13-30 hours a week is 23% whereas that for men is two times as low as the share for women, at 9%. The biggest share of women, 35%, work from 6 to 12 hours weekly, while 23% of males have the same working hours. As for the shortest working weeks, 23% of men and 18% of females work 1-2 hours a week.
As for the private sector, 34% men and a mere 4% women work over 46 hours a week, having the similar working weeks as men and women in the government sector. Meanwhile, about 40% of men and 40% women work either from 31 to 45 hours or from 13 to 30 hours weekly. Females’ share of those who work 6-12 hours a week, at 35%, is about two times as high as the share of males having the same working week. Notably, only 5% of men work 1-2 hours a week, whereas that figure for women is fourfold the figure for males.
