The line graph illustrates the amount of acid rain emissions in the UK from four sectors between 1990 and 2007, measured in millions of tonnes.
Overall, emissions from electricity, gas and water supply decreased significantly during the period. Similarly, other industries and domestic sectors also showed a downward trend, while transport and communication remained relatively stable with slight fluctuations.
In 1990, electricity, gas and water supply produced the highest amount of emissions, at about 3.3 million tonnes. However, this figure declined sharply to around 0.5 million tonnes by 2007. Other industries started at approximately 2.1 million tonnes and gradually fell to about 1.2 million tonnes at the end of the period.
Transport and communication emissions were much lower, beginning at roughly 0.7 million tonnes. This figure fluctuated slightly and finished at around 0.7 million tonnes in 2007. Meanwhile, the domestic sector showed a steady decrease from about 0.6 million tonnes to just under 0.2 million tonnes.
